Sky Larkin Announce Album Details + UK Tour

Sky Larkin have announced details of their third album, Motto, out on 16th September. Stream Loom from the album here.

‘Motto’ the album shares its name with the opening track, released to acclaim online earlier this summer.  Recorded with long-term collaborator, producer John Goodmanson (Girls, Sleater Kinney, Los Campesinos!) in Seattle, the album, like the same-titled opener is a distillation of all that makes Sky Larkin great.

Written for the most part whilst Katie was on the road playing in Wild Beasts, its varied themes and moods reflect the experience of performing in 28 countries and 20 months, a journey that became the record’s foundation. ‘Motto’, the name itself chosen on the 2nd day of the Wild Beasts tour, is a wide and swerving album venturing themes through love (‘Treasury’), loss (‘Loom’), the band’s Yorkshire home (‘Tarn’), seasons and lobotomies (‘Frozen Summer’) and much more beyond.

Through all it’s themes and moods, ‘Motto’ showcases Sky Larkin’s unshakable ability to conjure immediately satisfying, vibrant indie rock. “I’ve always wanted our records to be immediate at their most accessible, and at their most expansive, inhabitable” explains Harkin. “I really wanted to make something beautiful that wasn’t also permissive.”

The album is available to pre-order now on CD, LP (on clear vinyl) and digital download now via the Wichita shop.

Listen To The New Single From FIDLAR

Listen to Awkward, the new single from FIDLAR here. The track has already proved to be a lived favourite and was recorded and mixed  in June 2013 at MANT Studio in Los Angeles with Rob Schnapf at the helm.  Released  on September 8th and characteristically  featuring  a cacophony  of irresistible riffs around  the  heart of a  song that is proof once again that FIDLAR are one of the most vital, unpredictable new bands around,  whilst being the owners of  an ever increasing incredibly catchy  arsenal of songs that are seeping into the nation’s  bloodstream.

The band’s debut album FIDLAR is out now on CD, LP and download and available to buy on the Wichita store. The band will be returning to the UK at the end of August for appearance at Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Cerulean Salt is out now and has earned high praise across the board…

This combination of musical innocence and lyrical experience draws you in… one that sounds just a little more epic with every play’ ‘Album of the Week’ The Observer

‘This is intimate, confident songwriting… Crutchfield’s lyrics are simultaneously starkly honest and tricksily complex’ ‘Album Of The Week’ 4/5 Time Out

‘Truths rarely come as beautiful as this’ 8/10 NME

‘Crutchfield would no doubt laugh it off, but she’s already something of a star and, whatever direction she chooses to take, her potential seems boundless’ 4/5 Mojo

‘An intimacy and directness which will surely make Cerulean Salt one of 2013’s biggest albums… a lethally brilliant concoction’ 4/5 Q Magazine

‘The songs Katie Crutchfield sings as Waxahatchee are like scalpels; they slice through her life, her loves and her dreams’ The Guardian

‘Deceptively deep… if at first it seems like Cerulean Salt is a straight forward affair, it’s only because you haven’t taken the time to dive into its carefully constructed dramas and astonishingly stark confessions’ 8/10 Loud & Quiet

‘While it’s always been clear that she is a talented songwriter, Cerulean Salt represents an outstanding example of Crutchfield’s talent blossoming into one of US indie’s most vital and compelling voices’ 8/10 DIY Magazine

‘It’s something of a triumph’ The Fly

‘Albums of the month’ Dazed & Confused

‘Katie Crutchfield has a way of delivering a line so casually that it takes a half-dozen listens to fully realise how devastating it is… the work of a songwriter skilled enough to make introspection seem not self-centred, but generous’ 8.4 Pitchfork
