The Cribs follow in the footsteps of Hard-Fi and Thom Yorke to win the best record cover art of 2007.
Best record cover art exhibition to launch 2008's programme of events at the Art Vinyl Gallery in London.
08 January 2008: Music design gallery Art Vinyl today announces the results of the search to find 2007's best record covers which are to be celebrated in various exhibition venues around the UK in 2008, the first of which is at the Art Vinyl Gallery in east London.
Previous winners of the award were Hard-Fi's stark Stars of CCTV in 2005 and in 2006 Thom Yorke's The Eraser, took the honours for its design featuring a linocut by Stanley Donwood.
Art Vinyl - creator of the unique Play & Display frame for 12" vinyl - compiled the list from over 3000 public votes, with the favourite 50 sleeve designs now on show here.
Art Vinyl founder and managing director Andrew Heeps said, "This year it has been the art of great photography and composition that has shone through as the nations favourite sleeve designs for 2007. The results of the poll are always intriguing as they provide an instant snap shot of the popular art and music of that year. In a year of some digital music controversy it was great to see so many of our customers voting and still expressing their passion for vinyl cover art. This annual Art Vinyl Award is all about celebrating the emotional resonance of the best sleeve designs from a great year of art and music."
All of the sleeve designs will be displayed in the Play & Display Flip Frame and the exhibition of the 50 best will tour the UK in 2008 taking in a variety of venues including bars, record shops, museums and universities.
