17.03.08 - LOS CAMPESINOS! announce next single "My Year In Lists" on April 28th

From the discovery of their destined-to-be-attentively-studied-by-blogs-the-world-over musical wares nearly two years ago, right through to the recent release of their debut album ‘Hold On Now, Youngster…’, Los Campesinos! have time and again proved themselves as a band to stir the most hardened of cynics – those who ceased to believe in bands rooted in a genuine aesthetic, long ago. Youthful they may be, but Los Campesinos! are then, in no uncertain terms, an implicitly important band in 2008.

The second single proper to be taken from their longplayer, ‘My Year In Lists’ is 1 minute 49 seconds, of pure, unadulterated, pop-flecked brilliance. ‘Lists’ essentially mulls over the process of living out a relationship via Royal Mail, and bemoans the tedium of New Year (and the resolutions it inevitably engenders. “I believe in changing things when they need to be changed” says vocalist Gareth, pretty sagely, given his years).

Continuing the ‘short-lived’ theme to the single’s b-sides package, the band have covered three of their favourite short songs. Deerhoof, Bikini Kill, and Casiotone For The Painfully Alone are the subjects of happy study across the single’s formats (for full info, see below).

“All less than a minute long, or "<1" as we've so economically named it”, LC! explain. “It's a celebration of brevity and transience in pop music: all the best pop songs are short, or short-lived. As are most pop bands' careers. Probably ours too. Damn this ever-hungry web 2.0 generation... Never mind, no-one really wants to waste time with longevity and patience; this is for those of short attention span that won't sit still...”

Having spent most of their time out on the road in the UK, US, Europe and Japan since recording of their debut album was completed last summer, our Cardiff kids are now, inarguably, masters of any stage they occupy. LC! are set to tour the UK in April (starting with their first headline show in Cardiff since last summer, and their biggest on home turf to date), before the welcome onslaught of summer festivals kicks in. Full dates below.

B sides:-
‘The Eyebright Bugler” (Deerhoof cover)

25.02.08 - Los Campesinos! ‘Hold On Now, Youngster…’ the debut album out now on Wichita Recordings

Los Campesinos! release ‘Hold On Now, Youngster…’ which was recorded in Canada with one of their heroes, Broken Social Scene producer David Newfield.

Los Campesinos! are inspired and inspiring, and all the evidence you need is on the twelve vivid, witty and ferocious tunes on ‘Hold On Now, Youngster....’ This is a band who could change young lives for the better, not by trad-rock grandstanding, but by engaging with their audience on a deeper, more unashamedly intellectual level, and challenging them to make music, fashion, art and literature mean more. They are one of those bands who will inspire great bands to form, just as Sonic Youth and Pavement inspired them.

17.12.07 - Announce new single & debut album tracklisting...

Los Campesinos! will release the first single from their debut longplayer on Feb 18th 2008. 'Death To Los Campesinos!' is a near-on perfect, nay vital intro to what's contained on the forthcoming full record. Frenetic in tempo, euphoric in melody, it sets a tone for an expertly constructed, inventive pop album, resolutely void of indie-pop cliches.

The LP itself, entitled 'Hold On Now, Youngster...' will be released on Wichita Recordings on Feb 25th. The tracklisting, previously unannounced, is as follows:

01. Death To Los Campesinos!
02. Broken Heartbeats Sound Like Breakbeats
03. Don't Tell Me To Do The Math(s)
04. Drop It Doe Eyes
05. My Year In Lists
06. Knee Deep At ATP
07. This Is How You Spell 'HAHAHA, We Destroyed The Hopes And Dreams of A Generation of Faux-Romantics'
08. We Are All Accelerated Readers
09. You! Me! Dancing!
10. ...And We Exhale And Roll Our Eyes in Unison
11. Sweet Dreams, Sweet Cheeks

23.04.07 - You! Me! Dancing!

Released on 4th June 2007
"You! Me! Dancing!" b/w "It Started With A Mixx"
Their second single - Limited 7" and download only.

Los Campesinos! (LC! to fans, lovers, choice acquaintances, and badge makers) are on the verge. Of many things. Losing their marbles hopefully not being one of them, despite the somewhat frenzied agenda of the coming months. Sound of mind (for the moment at least) and armed with youthful enthusiasm, bidding a fond farewell to academia, student dwellings, and essay-writing awaits. As is a summer of musical indulges and major achievements.

Following a year of infrequent live shows - an indulgence for those lucky enough to have heard the band's early demos - and the release of their debut single back in February, our Cardiff septet release 'You! Me! Dancing! on Wichita Recordings on June 4th.

With the onset of Summer 2007, comes lives shows, rehearsals, recording and yet more hard graft for LC! Alongside the release of "Y! M! D!" in June comes a handful of UK shows including one at London's Scala, before the band head Stateside for their first North American tour, and finally to Canada to record their debut album with Broken Social Scene producer David Newfeld. Their debut album is planned for release at the start of 2008.

Whilst wishing to avoid the usual hyperbolic pitfalls descriptions of many an esteemed young new band succumb to, if one could choose a single word to surmise LC!, it would probably be 'inevitable'. 'You! Me! Dancing!' is a faultless introduction to their sizeable potential.
